City of Hartsville Honors CareSouth Carolina With National Health Center Week Proclamation

HARTSVILLE, S.C. — CareSouth Carolina was honored by the City of Hartsville during the Hartsville City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 11, as Mayor Dan Askins III presented a proclamation recognizing National Health Center Week and CareSouth Carolina’s longstanding commitment to the community.

Mayor Askins officially proclaimed August 2-8, 2026, as National Health Center Week in the City of Hartsville, recognizing the important role CareSouth Carolina and its team members play in providing access to high-quality health care throughout the region.

“I, Dan Askins III, Mayor of City of Hartsville in the State of South Carolina, do hereby proclaim August 2-8, 2026 as ‘National Health Center Week’ in the City of Hartsville and encourage all our citizens to join in celebrating the dedicated professionals at CareSouth Carolina whose commitment to improving the health and well-being of our community strengthens Hartsville today and for generations to come,” Askins stated in the proclamation.

The proclamation recognized CareSouth Carolina’s work to improve community health by expanding access to primary care and helping reduce unnecessary emergency room visits. Beyond its role in providing health care, the proclamation recognized CareSouth Carolina as an important economic contributor to the communities it serves. In 2024, the organization generated $191.3 million in economic activity and supported more than 1,128 direct and indirect jobs.

The proclamation also recognized CareSouth Carolina’s multidisciplinary approach to whole-person care and its continued efforts to meet changing community needs, including caring for veterans, addressing the opioid epidemic, and ensuring access to quality health care for those who need it most.

CareSouth Carolina CEO Ann Lewis reflected on the organization’s long relationship with Hartsville and the growth the community has experienced over the years.

“When we first came to Hartsville, we joked that we had come to the ‘big town,’” Lewis said. “We’ve still come to the big town. It’s because of your innovations, growth, development, and the ‘can do’ attitude that you all have. You really are an amazing community, and we really are privileged to be a part of it, and hope to be a part of it for a long time.”

CareSouth Carolina’s roots date back to 1980, when the organization began serving patients in Society Hill. It expanded into Bishopville, Clio and McColl in 1985 before later opening a satellite location in Hartsville in 1993. Since then, CareSouth Carolina has remained a part of the Hartsville community while continuing to expand its services and reach across the Pee Dee region.

Today, CareSouth Carolina employs more than 600 team members and operates centers across five counties: Chesterfield, Darlington, Lee, Marlboro, and Dillon.

In Hartsville, CareSouth Carolina operates a full-service center at 1268 S. Fourth Street. The center provides a wide range of services to meet the health needs of individuals and families, including primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health, chiropractic care, CareFusion services, and more. In addition, the CSC Community Pharmacy (1280 S. Fourth Street) is conveniently located beside the medical center and provides quick access to affordable medications. 

National Health Center Week is an opportunity to recognize the work of community health centers and the professionals who provide accessible, comprehensive care to patients in communities across the country.
