CareSouth Carolina welcomes Daisha Green, FNP, as the newest provider assisting the ROADS school-based team.
CareSouth Carolina’s mobile unit visit more than 50 schools in five different school districts in the Pee Dee every year, providing annual wellness visits and screenings to thousands of students around the area.
“This is a wonderful program that allows children who may not have the opportunity to visit a doctor’s office regularly to still get their wellness visits that are so important,” Green said. “The most exciting part for me is letting kids know that we are here for them. It’s convenient because they’re already at school anyway and this setting may make them a little more comfortable, as well.”
Green said the most rewarding part is being able to give back to the community.
“We’re working to ensure to the patient that we are here for them and that we are providing the best care possible for them,” Green said.
Health is a critical factor in setting our children up for success. Healthy children are more likely to attend school ready to learn and achieve higher levels of educational attainment, providing greater access to future opportunities and a pathway out of poverty. School-based health centers (SBHCs) have demonstrated their ability to increase access to healthcare, reduce emergency room use, lower Medicaid costs, and increase the use of sensitive services like mental health counseling. The Community Preventive Services Task Force recommends SBHCs as an evidence-based intervention to improve educational and health outcomes in low-income communities.
Parents are able to pre-register their students for the service. During the school year, each student pre-registered will receive a full physical by a family nurse practitioner, including vision screenings, hearing screenings and a look at their vital signs and social-history risk factors. CareSouth Carolina is then able to make referrals for abnormal findings and social needs.
Green attended Walden University where she received her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) and she received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Capella University.
Outside of work, Green enjoys event planning, traveling and spending time with her family.
