CareSouth Carolina Pediatric Providers Create Birthday Cake Kits for Local Families at Food Pantry

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — Two CareSouth Carolina pediatric providers are helping local families celebrate life’s special moments through a simple idea: everyone deserves to have a birthday cake.

Twin sisters Heather Worsham, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, and Lauren Worsham, MSN, APRN, CPNP-PC, PMHS, are putting together birthday cake kits to donate to the CareSouth Carolina Resource Center and Food Pantry in Bishopville.

Each kit will contain the supplies needed to make and enjoy a birthday cake, including cake mix, frosting and candles. The kits will also include a can of Sprite, which can be used in place of eggs and oil when preparing the cake. This gives families an option if they do not have those ingredients available at home.

For Heather and Lauren, the project started as a way to serve the community while also getting their own families involved.

“We were looking for a service project to do as a family,” Heather said. “We decided on the birthday cake kit as it is fun for the kids to put together. We believe that everyone deserves to celebrate their birthday!”

Sisters Share a Passion for Caring for Children

Heather and Lauren both serve children and families as pediatric providers with CareSouth Carolina.

Heather practices at CareSouth Carolina’s Hartsville office, located at 1268 South Fourth St. in Hartsville. Parents and caregivers can schedule an appointment for their child with Heather by calling 843-332-3422.

Lauren practices at CareSouth Carolina’s Bennettsville Pediatrics office, located at 210 W. Main Street in Bennettsville. Appointments with Lauren can be scheduled by calling 843-479-1200.

Their birthday cake kit project gives the twin sisters another opportunity to care for families beyond the walls of their respective CareSouth Carolina offices. By donating the kits to the food pantry, they hope families who may be facing difficult circumstances can still have the supplies needed to make a birthday feel special.

CareSouth Carolina Resource Center and Food Pantry Continues to Grow

The birthday cake kits will be available through the CareSouth Carolina Resource Center and Food Pantry, located at 106 Hospital Square in Bishopville. The building formerly served as the medical office of Dr. Leon E. Hunt.

The Resource Center and Food Pantry has continued to grow as a resource for individuals and families throughout the community. The pantry now receives USDA foods, allowing CareSouth Carolina to expand its efforts and make an even greater difference for those experiencing food insecurity.

Along with providing access to food, projects such as the birthday cake kits help meet another important need by giving families an opportunity to celebrate milestones together.
