Job Description
Under the supervision of the Regional Ombudsman and the oversight of the AAA Director and the Finance/Operations Manager, the Volunteer Ombudsman Coordinator conducts monthly friendly visits to nursing home and assisted living facilities. They advocate for the residents by addressing resident rights with appropriate facility staff.
- The Coordinator will maintain communication with the Regional Ombudsman’s office at all times
- Maintain confidentiality
- Will not investigate complaints, mediate disputes, or involve themselves in any controversy with families or facilities unless directed by the Regional Ombudsman
- Recruiting, training and maintaining at least two volunteers for each county in the region and coordinating with state and/or local trainers to complete certification of all volunteers
- Fulfills obligations and protocols of the Volunteer Ombudsman program to receive funding and conducts services corresponding to the Ombudsman Policies and Procedures
- Provides problem solving assistance and advocacy using practices established by the SLTCO and the LTC Ombudsman Policy and Procedure
- Provides brochures and written information to residents and their families on Resident’s Rights and the role of and contact information for the Ombudsman
- Conducts or participates in outreach as agencies, churches and civic groups to recruit volunteers and promote the program
- Provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteers.
- Plan yearly recognition event to promote retention of volunteers (April of each year)
- Maintain and report monthly friendly visitor program statistics, keep accurate records and submit monthly reports to the Regional Long Term Care Ombudsman program
- Evaluate the friendly visitor program for effectiveness and efficiency of the program along with the training curriculum, manual and literature
- Complete ongoing continuing education training
Education and Experience
- A high school diploma with a minimum of three years of experience in a related field that may include social work, public health, nursing, or a related field – OR - equivalent combinations of training and experience with demonstrated competence to fulfill duties assigned to this position.
- A valid SC Driver’s License is required.

Monday – Friday, 25 hours weekly
