Job Description
Under the guidance of the SHIP Coordinator, the SHIP/MIPPA/SMP Specialist serves as the primary responder for SHIP/Medicare calls. The Specialist objectively assists Medicare beneficiaries with questions and problems accessing or utilizing Medicare as well as all Medicare-related products and programs. Responsibilities include:
- Maintain current information regarding programs, opportunities, and services available to older adults, adults with disabilities, and their families/caregivers within their geographical regions and statewide and forward information on resources available for Medicare and Private insurance coverage.
- Accurately put client data into SIRS within 24 hours of receipt and document every call and contact, including information-only calls, by recording the type of information requested and the action taken.
- Submit quarterly reports using client data and/or data from SIRS.
- Provide a minimum of nine (9) community outreach events per quarter, nine (9) MIPPA Outreach Events per quarter, and four (4) SMP Outreach Events per quarter. A minimum of 313 contacts per quarter for the current grant period.
- Maintain a roster of 10 or more certified/active volunteer counselors to handle calls.
- Required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every year to maintain certification.
Education and Experience
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- High School Diploma with a minimum of two years of experience in a related field or equivalent combinations of training and experience with demonstrated competence to fulfill duties assigned to this position.
- Required to complete online SHIP Certification training and exam within 45 days of hire date and achieve an 80% passing score. In the event the 80% passing score is not achieved, the individual must retest within 30 days with a passing score to be eligible to continue working as a SHIP/MIPPA/SMP Specialist.
