Job Description

The Laboratory Manager provides leadership and directs the training, development, and supervision of laboratory personnel, and plans and schedules the activities of the laboratory. The Manager also assumes responsibility for the proper application of policies and procedures, and operates the laboratory on a cost-effective basis while meeting all CLIA and The Joint Commission regulations and standards. The Laboratory Manager is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all services provided by the laboratories under his/her supervision. This individual actively supports and complies with all company principles, policies, and procedures. The duties include:

  • Ensure that all testing performed under his/her supervision is according to established, approved procedures and quality control policies.
  • Perform management tasks such as: Interview, discipline, terminate, or make authoritative recommendations concerning hiring or firing laboratory staff.
  • In collaboration with the individual site administrators, plan work schedules and assign work based on the availability of personnel and workload, and make adjustments to ensure continuous operations and productivity levels.
  • Evaluate employee performance, recommend pay increases, handle grievances, and address job performance.
  • Coach and counsel staff to assist in their professional development.
  • Performs monthly in-person reviews of all Laboratory logs at each site for compliance and provides additional staff training when indicated.
  • Anticipate departmental needs to establish both long and short-range goals; provide direction to the employees to ensure implementation of plans and the meeting of goals; and measure compliance.
  • Prepare written monthly reports of all laboratory activities and submit to the Chief of Quality.
  • Prepare and write all P&P for the Laboratory function
  • Support and participate in the performance improvement process in an effort to continuously improve the quality of patient care.
  • Investigate and resolve problems; inform the Chief of Quality of all major problems.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and retention of all documents needed for CLIA/JCAHO inspections; ensure successful inspections and initiate timely remedial action as appropriate. Ensure that the laboratory maintains certification in all testing areas and retains its CLIA licenses.
  • Execute Safety and Infection Control Procedures to ensure patient, staff, and visitor safety.
  • Promote mutual respect and professionalism throughout the organization.
  • Perform other ancillary duties as directed by the competent authority.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science. - OR - military MLT certificate.
  • 5 years of management experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with process improvement / continuous improvement is highly desired

Hours

Monday – Friday; 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location

Will work at all CSC locations – offices in Bishopville, Hartsville, Society Hill, Chesterfield, Cheraw, Bennettsville, McColl, Lake View, Dillon, and Latta.
