Job Description
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of electrical systems across the organization’s facilities. This role serves as the organization’s electrical subject-matter expert, ensuring compliance with OSHA and healthcare regulations and safety standards. Provides direction and oversight to the electrician helper and maintenance technicians performing basic electrical work. The duties include:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems across all CareSouth Carolina facilities
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues with a focus on minimizing disruption to patient care and operations
- Provide technical direction, oversight, and coaching to the electrician helper and maintenance technicians performing minor electrical work
- Review and verify work to ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, Joint Commission, and other applicable healthcare standards
- Support and maintain life safety systems, emergency power systems, and critical infrastructure
- Coordinate and prioritize electrical work across all CareSouth Carolina locations, responding to urgent and after-hours needs as required
- Partner with facilities leadership to plan preventative maintenance, upgrades, and capital improvements
- Maintain accurate documentation for compliance, inspections, and audits
- Identify risks to patient and staff safety and proactively recommend corrective actions
- Completes required training and maintains compliance with organizational learning and policy systems (e.g., Relias, PowerDMS)
- Willingly assists with other duties as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and equipment in commercial or healthcare environments
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical issues independently
- Thorough understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and ability to apply it in real-world situations
- Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams
- Ability to lead, guide, and provide oversight to maintenance technicians performing basic electrical work
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions in time-sensitive or high-impact situations
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate work across multiple facilities with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of life safety systems, emergency power, and backup systems
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation for work performed, inspections, and compliance requirements
- Effective communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical staff
- Commitment to safety practices and infection control standards in healthcare environments
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Education and Experience
Required:
- Journeyman Electrician certification (municipal or equivalent), or completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship
- Minimum five (5) years of commercial electrical experience
- Strong working knowledge of NEC
Preferred:
- Licensed as an Electrical Contractor in South Carolina
- Experience in healthcare or regulated facilities
- Technical training in electrical systems
- Familiarity with NFPA 99
Location
This position’s base location is Hartsville, but the position requires working at all CareSouth Carolina locations. A company vehicle is provided.

Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
