A partnership between CareSouth Carolina and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is bringing improved access to health care in Dillon County. CareSouth Carolina broke ground December 18, 2017 on its new CareSouth Carolina Dillon Center at 1012 Old Latta Highway in Dillon.
The new building will house not only CareSouth Carolina Dillon office but also the Dillon County Health Department.
On hand for the ceremony were Senator Kent Williams, Representative Jackie Hayes, representatives from DHEC, City of Dillon, Dillon County Council, Dillon County Chamber of Commerce, and CareSouth Carolina staff and board members.
General preventative services such as immunizations will be offered at the facility. DHEC will also provide Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services at the new building. Future plans include provision of Title X family planning and related prevention services.
“CareSouth Carolina is so excited about this new endeavor with DHEC,” said Ann Lewis, Chief Executive Officer of CareSouth Carolina. “Since DHEC and CareSouth Carolina offered some of the same services, it made since to house everything in one location.”
“DHEC’s vision of healthy people in healthy communities depends on building partnerships such as this with CareSouth Carolina,” said Linda Johnson, DHEC Pee Dee Region Health Director. “We’re very excited about how this new facility will serve the needs of the people of Dillon County.”
“This exciting announcement lends to accommodating the current and anticipated growth in Dillon County by way of our numerous economic development projects,” said Rodney Berry, Dillon County Administrator. “We rest in knowing that current and future citizens will be served with excellence by CareSouth Carolina and DHEC in a new state of the art facility. Today announcement represents vision, progression and collaboration and Dillon County is grateful for our partnership with these entities.”
The new facility, with a total of 18,640 square feet, more than quadruples CareSouth Carolina’s capacity to provide services to Dillon County and surrounding areas. In addition to the services provided at the current location, the new facility will provide space for additional primary care providers, and additional support services including a pharmacy with a drive thru.
“This has been a very long time in the making,” said Lewis. “The new building would not have been possible without DHEC and Dillon County.”
