SHIP/MIPPA/SMP Specialist

Job Description

  • Under the supervision of the AAA Director and the SHIP Coordinator, this position provides support for older individuals in filing claims and obtaining benefits under Titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act, compares Medicare Supplemental Policies and files claims to obtain such benefits.

  • Also, the SHIP/MIPPA/SMP Specialist compares current and future health and post-retirement needs related to pension plans, and the relationship of pension benefits to insurance benefits and public benefits.

  • The incumbent travels throughout the region and occasionally within the state.  

  • The Specialist also schedules and/or fulfills speaking opportunities at local churches, senior centers, inter-agency meetings and civic clubs, etc. and distributes as well as explains publications on various services.

  • The Specialist attends meetings and/or conferences.

The Specialist provide assistance when needed for other Vantage Point Programs.

  •  The SHIP/MIPPS/SMP Specialist must take on-line SHIP Certification training and exam within 45 days of hire date and achieve an 80% passing score.  

  • In the event the 80% passing score is not achieved, the individual must retest within 30 days with a passing score to be eligible to continue working as a SHIP/MIPPA/SMP Specialist. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two years of experience in a related field or equivalent combinations of training and experience with demonstrated competence to fulfill duties assigned to this position.

Location

Position located in Hartville, SC.  Travel throughout the Pee Dee required.

Hours

Full-time, 37.50  hours (Monday – Thursday 8:00 – 5:00, Friday 8:00 – 1:30)
