McColl keeps Spirit of Christmas Alive

The staff at the CSC McColl Center just weren’t ready to take down the Christmas tree yet.  Elizabeth Brown and the staff at the site wanted to keep the holiday spirit going.  So, knowing that the CareFIRST Carolina foundation was helping patients meet needs everyday, she and the staff at the center decided to get creative.   Pat Graham felt a prize of some sort would help so she got in touch with her sister in law, Bernice Grooms at Candles and Things, who graciously donated a beautiful basket of goodies that they could use as a prize item.  Pat and Tom Jones also donated some collectable M and M dispensers for three additional prizes.  In honor of the upcoming Valentines Day, the staff took dollar donations for the honor of hanging a heart with the donor’s name on the tree.  Over the next month, the McColl staff collected $201 in community support.   Pictured above is Dorothy McCollum of McColl, the winner of the basket.   With Easter around the corner and a feeling that the Christmas spirit should stay alive (and the tree stay up a little longer), the McColl Team decided to change the theme to Easter.  Paper eggs were sold again for $1.00 each and although they only had a few weeks, the site raised another $70.00.   Lori Coachman’s mother Louise Sellers who makes baskets donated a basket for Easter and Latonya McCollum was the winner of that basket.   Mother’s day is around the corner and it looks like McColl is still not ready to take down its “giving tree.”    What started as a way to raise local awareness along with local donations has turned into a community effort to be sure we do not forget why we all do what we do - to help our friends and neighbors when we can.    We salute McColl for creating a Christmas tree that keeps on giving.
